Cookies and coffee for breakfast!

I’ve been waiting and waiting to make these chocolate, pecan cookies from Smitten Kitchen.

Now that I have plenty of free time, I got around to baking these up one evening. They were easy to make without too much effort, none of that crazy “whip this, refrigerate this and wait for this”. Just straight forward butter, sugar, flour, mix-ins and bake!

The cookies were wafting delicious smells of cinnamon, clove, nutmeg and chocolate all through my house. The bit of orange zest was a nice bright punch in this super winter friendly cookies. However next time, I think I’ll cut the spice level just a bit. The 1/8 teaspoon of clove and nutmeg I found slightly overwhelming. My guess is it’s because I ground them up at the moment instead of straight out of the package. I love, love the idea of a little extra spice to make these cookies just a bit more gourmet.

Of course, the best way to enjoy these cookies is probably with milk. But for lame-o’s like me who don’t drink milk, (and no I’m not leaving the house to go buy milk de almond at 8 a.m.) they go great with coffee.

Cookies and coffee. Best breakfast ever? I think so.
